Travel Series - Hoof It Goat Treks

Vintage-style postcard featuring goats and hikers in a scenic landscape. Text: "Greetings from Galena, Illinois, Hoof It Goat Treks."

During our first visit to Galena, Gene and I met with Paul at The Root Beer Revelry. As we talked, he spoke so highly of Christina and her business, Hoof It Goat Treks, that we knew we couldn’t miss the opportunity to meet her and learn her story for ourselves.

Meeting Christina turned out to be one of the absolute highlights of our trip.

She is completely down-to-earth, incredibly welcoming, and clearly passionate about what she does. Her business model is truly unique. You won’t find another experience quite like this, built on deep family traditions and land that has been in her family for generations. We talk to a lot of business owners across Illinois, so when I say I was impressed, that’s high praise.

Christina shared her journey with us, about how Hoof It Goat Treks grew from a simple family tradition into a thriving small business she now runs alongside her two daughters. You can feel the heart behind everything she does, from the way she talks about her animals to the ideas she’s dreaming up for the future.

Of course, we also got to meet the goats… and let me tell you, some of them are huge. At first glance, we honestly thought a few of them were cows, that’s how big they are! Every goat was friendly, well cared for, and clearly loved. It was easy to see that their well-being is a top priority.

Unfortunately, the weather was a little too cold during our visit for the goats to head out on a hike, but that just gives us an excuse to come back. We’re already planning a return trip in the spring with the kids so we can experience a full goat hike together.

Hoof It Goat Treks is one of those rare places where passion, family, and land come together to create something truly special. We can’t wait to return and fully experience everything Christina and her goats have to offer. We highly recommend adding this experience to your Galena must-do list!
